A couple of updates!
Firstly, thank you all for the wonderful comments, here and on Leaky, accompanying the debut of this web site and the attendant announcements. This is a portion of my life in which I more often feel nauseated than anything else, so thank you for acting as my virtual Pepto Bismol. I promise that's a compliment.
The panel at Comic Con was excellent, and I'll have pictures and video to share with you soon.
I have two more quick things, as we wait to take off from San Diego for Boston to start this year's short PotterCast tour:
1. I updated the Events sidebar to include all the PotterCast dates that we have so far (it will be updated as our tour dates are updated, too). These aren't book events, per se, but I thought you might like to know.
2. I got the first bound galley of the book at Comic Con; it's in a false blue cover and contains some typos and grammatical quirks that have yet to be ironed out, but for the first time I held a real book of my own in my hands... there aren't words. I know I should have words, but I do not.
I only held it very briefly, however. Sue snatched it up and I haven't seen it since. Watching her read - watching her laugh, watching her look at me with pride, watching her get excited over the same parts I love most, and listening to the hilarious snicker/laugh she emits whenever she boasts that she's reading it (which is often) - is a great gift, one which I've captured:

Ok sorry to make this my favorite word but it really is: Sue is so CUTE.
I don't know about you, but I'd have tears in my eyes, then start laughing with lingering tears if my friend snatched my own first copy of my book from me!
Sue, I'm going to be back in MI next week. I'll be stopping by to give a quick read, k?
all kidding aside, congrats again Melissa. Its still awesome.
Awwwww, this photo is so sweet! Congrats; I'm so happy for you! Can't wait to get my hands on the book. :)
Wow! I am so excited for you!
I cant wait until i get my copy!
I bet that Sue will wish she had kept that uncorrected copy when its worth millions someday!
Congratulations!
I am so excited to read your book. I have been so greatful to you, Sue, John, and now Frak for providing a common outlet and voice for so many people who share the love of such a wonderful series. You guys have become my friends who I look forward to hearing from every week. You always make me smile. Congrats Melissa!! Can't wait to see you all at Terminus!! I'm in Brubu!!
You're so inspiring, Melissa. Thank you so much for immortalizing this fandom through the medium we all love must: a book. Thank you. Thank you. Thank you.
Wow... what a great pic. How wonderful it must be to see/hear honest and positive reactions from someone else about your baby. I cant imagine. Congrats again to you, Melissa, for the first bound copy, and a hairy-eyeball and all kindsa jealousy to Sue for already getting to see it! LOL. (you going to have it with you during the tour???)
If I had known you had a copy of the book already I would have wrestled Sue to the ground last night and insisted she surrender the copy to me. Lol, I had a great time seeing you guys last night.
I think it is funny that you got so little time with it. I am glad to hear it was well recived by Sue
Yay Mel!
I'm so glad, and am very green that Sue got to read it...
Can't wait till Nov.!
Mel!
You must be so excited! I'm SO looking forward to this book, almost as much as the Harry Potter books themselves! And with a forward by JK Rowling herself!
You must be on cloud nine! I can't wait to get my hands on a copy...shame we have to wait till November, but that's okay. I can re-read Harry Potter until then. LOL
Cheers to you!
Jamieson
This is one of the most exciting pictures I've seen since Deathly Hallows Cover Art Day! (Yes, I count it as an official day... hehe)
Can't wait, Melissa!!!
that's so exciting. and i wish i was as lucky as sue but i know i can wait for it. makes it all that more exciting. good luck on tour. i hope you have fun.
You are fabulous, Melissa. Congratulations!
SUE!! give it to me...please!! no one has to know...from one Hufflepuff to another!! come on!!!
CONGRATZ MEL!!!! sooo excited...
I'm so excited for you! (And jealous that Sue gets to read it and I hope to one day have the same luck as you in getting my book published.) But it's your time to shine and you deserve it. I give you the most sincere congrats and happiness in the future.
Fayewn of Ravenclaw
P.S. Sorry for the unruley spelling.
You write beautifully and that pic of Sue is great!
UM SUE!!! You are required to turn that copy over to HER SISTER right now!!!
Melissa, I'll be knocking shortly, tapping my toe with my hand outstretched!!!
Sincerest of sincere congratulations Melissa. [I am as happy and jealous of you as someone you don't know can be. :)]
I await my pre-ordered copy with much anticipation. I'm sure your book will be a wonderful reminder of all the fun we in the fandom have all this last decade. I'm amazed at how intense my own interst has grown--since about the same time as you. I latched on around the time HP & the GoF was published and I've grown more and more interested every since.
The largest reason for the growth (outside of Rowling herself) is the tireless work that you and everyone at Leaky have done over the years. I (and my oldest daughter) are a fan of Pottercast and Wizard Rock because of you, Sue, John, Frak, and everyone behind the scenes. So, thanks very much and I hope your (well-earned) success continues to come.
Holy crap. It's right there (pointing), right there in the picture. Ohemgee.
I love you guys. And I can't wait to see you NEXT WEEK!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Feeling nauseated? Just remember what Jo said at Harvard. It's a win-win situation.
My goodness, I want an uncorrected proof. And you definitely should be doing Toronto's Young International Festival of Authors this October. Send them an uncorrected proof.
You may recall that Jo's Toronto reading was part of the Young IFOA and she was given that Green Award for using Ancient Forest Friendly paper.
I'm sure they've not set the progamming yet. And I'm sure someone at the CBC will want to talk to you. (I'm turning into your phantom publicist!)
Go, Mel, Go!!!
