UK Cover!

By Melissa Anelli on October 2, 2008 2:10 PM | Permalink | Comments (25)

I'm happy to show you today the UK cover for Harry, which has now been updated on the UK Amazon listing (which means this UK listing is for the American edition shipped to England, which you're of course welcome to get, but just as a warning to Brits, it's likely going to carry some heavy shipping and take longer to get there). Also, the Amazon page says the release dates are different than I've posted below; given the two I'd side with my publisher's any day. :)

So, now, the UK cover for Harry, which is just slightly different from the North American one:

I think I like the UK cover better. Whice one do you like? Can't wait for the release.

It was nice to meet you in NYC this summer.
Fondly,
Donna

I shall now buy the cover for the Uck version, I like it so much better. It's well worth the extra cost of shipping

Well, now I am most curious as to what the foreword would have said. Was it "including a special feature on Porches"? ;)

Wow, Melissa. It must be getting exiting now!

Is the UK cover going to serve as the Australian cover or do we get yet another variation?

Hope all is well!

Hey Melissa,
i'd really like to have your book, but i'm from Buenos Aires, Argentina, and i don't know how to get it.
is this book only sold through Amazon.com??
please contact me at estefy23@hotmail.com
Thankyou!!

I LOVE it! I actually like it a lot better than the US cover, so I'm kind of regretting the fact that I pre-ordered it already...(but not really, of course!)

Hmmmmm, seems I was kinda right after all.

Melissa, I think it is quite possible that Australia and New Zealand may get H,aH earlier than anyone else(I bet we'll get the UK cover of course, ahhh the good ol' British Commonwealth) due to the time it'll take to print and then ship to booksellers all over both countries, not to mention the rest of Australasia.
Maybe that is why numerous bookstores over here have been told that the 27th of October is to be the shipping date by Penguin Australia.
I'm simply guessing of course, I'm not going on by what's on Amazon, just what I've been able to find out myself in regards to publication for both Australia and New Zealand.

Thanks for the warning about the 2 different listings on Amazon UK, Melissa. I really like both covers, but I've decided to go with the UK one so I've amended my order.

Not long to go now!!!!!!

Melissa!! it looks fantastic! i thought it would be completely different from the American cover but it isnt!! i assume this is going to be the Canadian cover as well!! omg! i cant wait!! sooo excited!!!

Oh, and no, I could never have a preference. It's my book, it's like... like saying if you prefer one kid's red hair or the other's brunette. I love them both equally as I suspect I will the others. I don't know that ahead of time because it's a false opinion, it's because any cover of my book is going to be special to me no matter what it looks like. :)

The starburst wasn't an afterthought, it was just going to say something else before the foreword was there. :)

Dates are not like they are for Harry Potter: it's not going to be that you can't get it before these dates specifically. It just means BY these dates, you are almost 100 percent able to get it. Yep, it'll defintiely start showing up in bookstores in some places beforehand, the way 99.9999% of books do. Only HP and Twilight and such are kept in boxes in the back until a specific minute :) The rest are thrown onto shelves as soon as the bookstore managers and workers get the chance. :)

It seems that both UK and US are available on UK Amazon, the US version is £1.50 more. So its basically the US cover but with a more spectacular emphasis on Jo's foreword which seems to be a late afterthought which I'm sure if thought of earlier, the US would have adopted too being a great marketing catch. I like the trailing magic bubbles, makes the book feel like a more magical experience! Amazon UK still has a publishing release date of 3rd November but I know I have to believe Melissa's date of 14th is more likely... sniff!

I am so looking forward to this! Any hope you will be doing a signing in the UK? :)

Jessica P: I agree and disagree with you over publication dates. Certainly H,aH won't have the massive synchronized release of the Harry Potter books, and I expect Amazon will ship the books whenever they receive them whether before or after the advertised release date, and so it won't be a 4th November on the doorstep delivery.
However, I believe Melissa's dates more than I do Amazon's because I think it likely that Amazon is quoting the target dates the publisher originally gave, and Melissa has the current target dates, not least because we have only just had the UK cover confirmed.

I wish I could get both covers, or maybe I can.

I'm sorry, but I'm going to have to disagree with you in regards with the publication dates, Melissa.
What your publishers may have told you isn't exactly what they may be planning to do, my sources in the industry tell me that publishers don't always stick to their original plans, sometimes they even ship books long before the planned publication date.
Of course the Harry Potters, the Twilight books and others with a massive fandom surrounding each and every one are an exception, I just don't believe that Harry, A History will be, I'm sorry.

Well,it's almost the same from USA x)
But I prefer the Uk Cover, coz will match with my potter books x)

Hey, Praty! Acho que tem mais brasileiros por aqui xD Anyway, prazer o//

Very nice. I like both. Anxiously awaiting my copy. I may order the UK version too. I assume the text will be the same?

OMT

So Canada gets the North American one, right?
Im more excited for this than Beedle!

I love both covers! I was just thinking...wow it's so close to the release date, "how is Melissa feeling?" Excited, I know b/c I feel that way for you...what else is going on in that brain of yours?? We applaud you and can't wait to get it our hands! Hugs to you my friend!

Wow, this is nice. Now I wonder which cover we're going to get in Canada. Will it be the UK edition, like with the Potter books, or the American version seeing as they're just down south. I can't wait til I get my copy (I've already preordered!)

*CANT CONTAIN EXCITEMENT*

I WANT THIS BOOK NOW!!!!

Both are very nice but I prefer the US cover myself.

The shipping for the US version to the UK will be included in the price, so shoppers at Amazon UK will pay the price advertised, but it is entirely possible that it could take longer to deliver than the UK book (though of course the US book has a couple of weeks' head start because of the different publication dates).

Wow... the UK cover is more beautiful...

do you have a preference, Melissa? I'm sort of in between both! K x
