New NYC Signing Date Plus We Are Wizards
Hello! First of all, thank you to everyone who came to the Borders event on Wednesday. I had a great time; we'll have pictures up here shortly.
Second, in case you missed it, there is another NYC event coming: November 14, at the Barnes & Noble in TriBeCa (see sidebar for map). I'll be discussing the book and doing a signing, as well as talking with some of the cast and crew of We Are Wizards as we celebrate the opening of the movie's first theatrical release! The event is at 6:30, and we are all going to see the film at the Cinema Village Theater at a time to be determined (when the release the showtimes, we'll update it).
See you there! More coming today.
Hey Melissa,
I am a 100 pages into the book. It is awsome.
It brings tears to my eyes. Us fans of Harry Potter created something awsome. We all created this fandom just us down to earth people. Not a corporation, not the media, just us. We bonded together; no publishers, book stores, or movie studios will ever be able to recreate this Phenomenon. Just think of what people can do when they band together. We have lived through something very, very special. WOW!!!!!
Love you and thank you.
Donna
P.S. It must be the best high you can get to meet and talk with J. K. Rowling!!!!!
Oh man! I have been wanting to see We Are Wizards for ages. I know I won't get to see it here (we never get independent films), but I'm hopeful for a DVD. I love my copy of the Wrockumentary, and I'm eager for another hit of fandom documentation. That documentary and your book really help keep the fandom alive and connected and I'm eager for more!
Melissa,
Just finished your book. It was great. Thank you so much for sharing your story and for all of your dedication to making the Leaky Cauldron what it is. The HP community - specifically TLC and Pottercast- helped me wrestle my way out of the depression and isolation I sank into following Hurricane Katrina in 2005. Your work for the fandom has affected so many lives for the better. Congratulations on this great accomplishment. You deserve it.
I picked up your book yesterday while I was waiting to get a prescription filled and figured I'd take it on my business trip this week. But, the excitement got to be too much so I opened it about 9 last night. Big mistake. Well, not really.
It brought it all back. The overwhelming excitment of another HP book! I couldn't put it down, I couldn't go to sleep without knowing! I had what will probably be my last marathon, all-night HP read. Thank you for that. You took all of the passion that we, as fans, had for the story and poured it right back into your book for us to live all over again.
I wrote a review over at goodreads.com and I said that I became a squealing fan-girl from the moment I read the foreward (written by JKR herself!) until the very end. I would be reading along and say, OMG she met the actors! or OMG OMG OMG she met JKR -- more than once!
There will always be people in the world who don't understand the magic of HP, the way it touched our lives, but to read a book written by someone who not only understands it but who lived it the same way we did (and helped create it as well) was a really amazing experience. Thank you.
Mellissa, I have just finished your book and it was great. It was loaded with information that we never knew.I am a father of two and our family loves Harry, and the Leaky Cauldron. I am giving your book out as christmas presents to alot of my childrens friends because i know they wioll love it. Keep up the great work and THANK YOU once again :)
I've just finished reading Harry, A History. And I'm not sure if this is the right place for a review-ish thing-- but here I go:
I've just texted my sister telling her I'm done (she's reading it next) and I said "There's a point in the book where you start crying, and you don't stop until the very end. It's so good!"
I went on to tell her how I felt that, if only our brothers, or our parents, or even some of our friends, would just take the time to read "Harry, A History" they would suddenly understand me, us, so much better. I've been trying to explain to them for years why Harry Potter is so important to me, and you've gone and done just that so perfectly.
Our stories are totally different, yet at the same time just... identical. Totally the same. I'm thinking of planting the book on my mom's nightstand, in a desperate attempt to get her to really understand me for once, and stop talking about me to her friends as her "strange child" and ragging on me about having put more effort into my love of Harry Potter than I am college.
I've been part of this community, whether I was aware of it or not, since I was nine years old. It's great to know, in print, that I'm not alone. Never really been alone since Harry Potter, now that I think about it. Thank you for that. You are a wonderful writer.

Melissa,
Thank you for the great book. It was cool to see how you came to be and how JKR got started. Now look at you two!!! It was cool to go back in time and yes I remember waiting for each book and movie. I'm soo envious, that you actually got to meet and talk to her. I am soo very jealous!!!! I also am a fan of your website. Thanks for the great ride!!!!
Melissa-
I am reading your amazing book and I have a new respect for Leaky, Wizard Rock, and the internet in general! I have been addicted for two days now and reading about all the book releases and movie premieres is like living the past few years over again. You are a great fan, and an even better writer. Thank you for sharing your world!
We Are Wizards having a theatrical release? That is sooo Cool!! think it could happen in Kansas?
I finished it! I took five days to do so. Not that I needed them, but just because I wanted to take my time with it. And oh, how amazing it feels to be back in a state of mind where the only thing that really matters about the fandom is tis: We. Like. Harry. Potter. Dot, the end. THANK YOU!!!
Hey Melissa,
I just wanted to let you know that I read your book in two days, and thought it was fantastic. I made my father drive me out to get it November 4th, and although I am Canadian, I was torn about whether to just keep reading, or taking quick election breaks! I thought the book was poignant, and made me realize things about myself I never had. One of the better books I have read in a long time.
Thank you so much,
Sydney
Melissa,
Had a great time Wednesday night.

Good Luck with the sales figures.
