Hi Melissa

A brilliant friend bought me your book for Christmas as I've been entranced with it ever since. It's brought back so many memories.

Thank you.

Hi, great book! Just finished it. Brought back so many memories!!
I read the DH chapter with very watery eyes and my husband kept saying, what now?!? He hasn't read them and doesnt understand!
Anyway, thanks for the memories!! And you must come to the Atlanta area for a book signing!!

Hi Melissa,

I just finished your book (I asked for it for Christmas) and wanted to let you know how much I enjoyed it. I think you did a fantastic job, and your skillful writing really shows through.

So many people appreciate all you have done for the fandom, and I just want to add my voice to that. I'm not too far off your age and your story about how you became involved in Harry Potter isn't far from mine. I also have a journalism background, and I found the SugarQull early on and made that my haven. I just always have been a lurker instead of actually posting, editing, reporting and generally doing work on the fansites.

Congratulations on all you have done and most of all, this book. It made me tear up at the end and I have been antisocially reading it most of today and yesterday (between 12 hours of work yesterday) in much the same fashion I read the Harry Potter books. I liked how you portrayed the different personalities and people; your writing style is fun and descriptive while still remaining relatively impartial. And there were so many interesting bits that I didn't know! You are such a skilled reporter and you have great writing chops to go along with it.

I think your attitude is wonderful and I am thankful to all the people you mentioned--Sarah, Kathleen, Meg, David, your mom--for keeping you into the HP craziness and yet still sane and objective.

Best of luck with everything. I hope this book makes you enough money that you can keep following your dreams. :)

Alright, I'm done. Thank you so much for letting me relive the last 10 years with you. I've been reading the books since '99 before PoA came out and remember finding things around the same time as you - especially SQ - Heh, the first time I found that site was when I really became an obsessed fan. It took me about 2 months of nightly readings to read the entire posted site! What fun!

Thank you for taking us along for the ride, and letting those of us who've been around for awhile relive the experience.

See you in Boston in May!

Ah Melissa! I can't believe I missed it! I LOVE the Harvard Coop!
(still waiting for Leaky Mug to do a show in Boston)
(don't tell me I missed that too?)

The book was amazing. You are truly gifted.

Happy Christmas, Melissa, Well, it was a toss up today as to which to read first - my deluxe edition of BtB or HaH - sorry - Beedle won. However, I am now getting ready to go to bed and read HaH. I will tell you I sneaked a peek at Jo's foreward last night when I was wrapping my mother's copy - but that was all I would allow myself. Kinda like opening one present on Christmas Eve when we were little kids. ;-)

So, off I go to read... Have a happy holiday season, I know I will with the next 3 days off of work and a stack of books to read! (Twilight Series and Inkheart series in addition to your little gem.)

Well, off to bed to read and nurse my cold. TTFN

Hi, I just finsihed your book and I can't explain how good it was. The feelings it made me feel, specially towards the ending and remembering the feelings I had towards the end. (I actually sat with the book in my hands for 15 straight minutes before opening, and then other 15 just rereading the dedication. I wasn't ready when I first got it, I just wasn't ready)

But your book was pure brilliance, it helped me see parts of the fandom I never quite caught, not entering the fandom for real untill after HBP. Not entering Harry world before a couple of months before OotP. It helped me remember why Harry had meant so much to me to begin with, thank you Melissa.

I'm very much enjoying your book, though I just began it today. Hope to hear you at a discussion/reading/signing one day. It's always fun to find out about other reader experiences. Why hasn't your book gotten more press, though? I just happened to run across it in Target one day....

Dear Melissa,
Hello. I'm a 52-yr-old, retired Deputy D.A. from San Diego who first became aware of HP when my now 16-yr-old daughter was reading it in 1999. Since then, I've re-read the series before each new publication or new movie. We used to share the new books...but by book 3 had to buy a copy for each of us.
Finding your book at B&N last week was like salve to my still healing wound that WB changed the release date of the latest HP movie - something that set the blood of me and my fellow San Diegan Potterophiles to boiling...
I just finished your book this instant and came immediately to your website. Great job. You write the way I like to read. Quick. Funny. Great insight. Very, very enjoyable. I am happy for your success.
If I lived in Boston, I'd be there! Good luck!
Sincerely, Stacy R, Carlsbad, CA.

p.s. Knowing what I do now, I'll not lend my best friend your book...I'll make her go buy another copy!

YAAY! Hopefully my hockey game gets cancelled and I'll see you there!

Oh I can't wait for the book signing or the Yule Ball!

Travel safe to Botson, Melissa. We're supposed to be getting icky weather all weekend :-(.

However, my friend is trying to work on a weather-shifting charm, so maybe we'll all luck out :-).

Squee!

I wish I could go to your signing and the Yule Ball too, Melissa.
Alas it is too far away for me to go. *curses living in the Southern Hemisphere*

Just a quick question, were the emails of all those who comment on here added automatically to the mailing list or did you gather them up and add them yourself? I'm just curious to know.

Still loving the book BTW. I should be getting a second copy by next year, since my copy of the US edition is getting a little tatty and I meant to put it away for safekeeping in case we ever met in person and that I can get you to sign it for me.

Hi everybody,

I bought "Harry. A History" last Saturday Night and finished it Tuesday Afternoon, having had to squeeze half hours of reading in between our my family life and work. I'm very much impressed with the book. I would like to thank Melissa for a great insight in the "phenomenon" that HP has become.

I live in the Netherlands and large parts of the phenomenon Melissa describes have never reached us. Especially all the bands were an eye-opener for me.

I hope JKR will decide to write "Hogwarts. A History" someday.

Jan

So excited! I can't wait until sunday :D squee!

Aw man. I really wish that I lived in Boston... it'll take 5 hours to drive there. :)
