Those of you who have read Harry, A History know that (spoiler alert, lol) in the book I tell how my redheaded and Weasleyesque friend Meg became engaged to her Harry doppelganger boyfriend, Devin. They met on the Sugar Quill after book six and it was all lovey (and occasionally gross :) after that. (She provided me with her own writeup of the events, and I wrote it in my own way from that.) I have just come back from Seattle, WA, where I was lucky enough to see the happy ending.
Or, I should say... happy beginning.
Enjoy :)

Smooches! Meg and Devin at the reception.

Best cake ever? Agreed. Best Cake Ever.

As if you weren't already sure! It also tasted delicious. And I maneuvered myself to get a piece that had part of the "A" in "All Was Well" on it.

Meg and Devin put out little linen squares on which we all wrote messages. Next to these squares, to my surprise and delight and then to my embarrassment because I was crying like an old sap, was their snippet from the book.

They put stacks of books that meant something to them all over the room; I was thrilled to find Harry, A History in this company. :)

It was almost - almost - a shame to see that cake cut. It was too good to care much later.
Amazing. I'm so jealous!!
Wow - Fairy tales can come true...
It can happen to you...
I was a member of the SQ for over four years and I clearly remember Arabella and Devin. I also remember Moey, Cap'n Kathy, Nundu, Alkari, Dr. F, the list can go on and on.
It was wonderful reading about these two ( who look exactly like James and Lily to me )and made ME feel young at heart again. That cake just took my breath away. And the books everywhere...*sigh* If I had my life to live over....
Great job Melissa ! I just finished your book being down with the flu and I enjoyed it immensley. Take it from one who is " still " working for a " Denise". You were right to leave your ' jobs' to write and become who you are. Always follow your heart and dreams...take that risk and leap of faith. I did not - and I regret it. Look at Meg and Devin ! Just beautiful.
Lovely photos of a lovely wedding! Congrats Meg and Devin. I miss you and the Quill X 87.
This is honestly one of the sweetest and most touching stories I have ever heard. Take that, Hollywood - they can't come up with stories like this. I loved this part in HAH, because it did such an amazing job of showing just how HP can bring people together. Meg and Devin, I wish you guys all the very best!!
P.S. That cake was brilliance in itself.
All the best to Meg and Devin. You kids deserve it. HOO BAH!!!
I havent gotten to this part of HaH yet, but now I cant wait! I've only just started reading it, and then I got so busy at work that I didnt have time. I'm about to get back into it, and I cant wait to get to this part. I'm such a sucker for romance! Congrats to Meg and Devin, and thanks to you, and to Melissa, for sharing!
Sweetest. Thing. Ever. I LOVE that cake! And the best thing is, only HP geks will get it! Musch luck to you Meg and Devin! And you Meliss, I can't wait for another book, no matter what it's about!
I am NOT an 'HP sap' by any means. I tend to roll my eyes when I hear people get too excited about the HP phenomenon.
That said, I'm choking up something terrible after reading that cake ...
Details, woman, details! I will not rest until you have written a full-length essay all about that cake! Creator? Techniques? Flavor?
I assume the creator was a professional. If not, what an AMAZING gift.
I MEAN it! Details! I have some pretty nasty hexes in my arsenal if you fail to comply! :D
AWW! That is so nice! Reading that cake gave me chills! It is so fitting for a wedding. Congrats guys!
Wow, that cake is the most amazing thing I have ever seen!!!! Congratulations and many blessings to Meg and Devin!! It looks like you have some awesome friends, Melissa.
Melissa, I love this post, but mostly I just wanted to let you know that I got your book for Christmas and am loving it. Besides the overwhelming waves of nostalgia it brings me, I love reading even more into things I missed, such as stuff I was too young to get into yet (I started with Harry in 1999 when I was only 9 years old and we didn't have a home computer yet). I love that you commemorated what I've always said I'll be able to brag about to my kids: that I was actually there in the middle of it all.
I cannot even believe that is a cake!!! It's amazing! I hope Jo becomes aware of it. Thank you so much for sharing such a lovely love story with us Melissa. <3
Wow...what a wonderful wedding. And what a wonderful cake! Congratulations and best wishes to Meg and Devin, if you're out there. :)
Thank you for the happy wishes, everyone! You rule. And we do promise not to name any kids Albus Severus. :D Melissa, for the 87,000th time, congratulations on finishing your book and on the fantastic (wholly deserved) response you're receiving. Thank you so much for being there with us - I can't believe you traveled all this way, in horrible weather, in the middle of everything else you're doing. You will never cease to amaze me. Thank you, Internet, and thank you, Harry, for giving me such a friend!
Very touching post, thank you for sahring it Melissa!
Congrats Meg & Devin!!!
This part of your book touched me maybe the most, melissa. Thank you for letting us know the beautiful ending/beginning...
My congratulations to Meg and Devin and i wish you all the best of luck in the future!
Cheers!
aww, that was a lovely post. Thanks for the update, I loved that bit in the book, it was adorable, its nice to know how nicely it turned out! Congradulations to them!
All was well.
Indeed. May they live and love happily forever.
OMT
I'm so pleased that their wedding was so magical.
And when I read what was written on that cake, I got serious chills.
Cheers, Meg and Devin!
I'm so pleased that their wedding was wonderful.
And that cake...
When I read what was written on the cake, I got serious chills.
Cheers, Meg and Devin!
Aww Harry and Ginny got married :) I don't know you guys but congrats on your wedding and the cake looked awesome.
Wow! Cool cake and lovely looking ceremony. Congrats to Meg and Devin.
Of course I know none of these people personally, though I am in the middle of reading Harry a History and know "who" they are, but am surprised to be so touched by this post. The cake, the books, the linen notes, so beautiful and full of meaning. Books are so wonderful, they can be isolating and cause some to be recluse types, but for others, like Meg and her new hubby, Melissa, John & Sue, a door into a whole new world, literally and figuratively. As we all are, I am very grateful to Harry and his brand of magic and what's it's brought to my own life. Reliving it through your book, from what I missed in the beginning, to when I came to be an obsessive fan, just before OotP came out, has brought tears of joy.
Thank you so much for posting the pictures! I've been a fan of Arabella's writing for years and I am so glad she got her happy ending. :)
That cake was beyond whoa!
And all together now - awwwwwwwwwwwww
That is so sweet! It looks like it was a lovely wedding.
You were in Seattle!
OMG THAT'S A CAKE?! WOW!!!! Congrats to the happy couple, who indeed. Melissa, resemble a certain couple we all know!
You were in Seattle??!!! No way! So THAT's the wedding you mentioned in your video. Darn. You totally should have done a book signing while you were out here (if you were to have had time of course....)
Can we get a collective awwww, please? Like Bruce I got choked up reading just from what I know about these two from the book. I love their cake and stacks of books, too.
Congratulations to the happy couple! That cake does look awesome.
Aww they are just adorable. So sweet. They know how to plan a wedding.
Thank you, Melissa, for sharing this, and, Meg and Devin, for allowing us to have a peek inside your special day. Congrats and all the best to you.
HOLY FLOBBERWORM! THAT CAKE IS THE MOST AMAZING THING I'VE EVER SEEN! I actually think that the fact that it says "All was well" on it makes it more awesome than the Hogwarts cake. And I now totally remember that part from HaH! That is so awesme! Congrats to them both!
Aww how sweet!! I hope that it leads to good things.
And please tell them not to name their kid Albus Severus.
That cake looks awesome! Congratulations to Meg and Devin :D
What a fabulous, perfect cake! And I might steal the idea of displaying meaningful books like that if I ever get married...that's so awesome.
I don't even know this couple and I was getting choked up reading your post. What a great way to kick off the New Year. Thank you so much for posting it!
